Agencies Urged To Sensitize Nigerians On Their Operations

September 15, 2011

Departments and agencies in the nation’s minerals and metals sector have been urged to sensitize Nigerians and members of the public on their operations to attract both local and foreign investors.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Musa Mohammed Sada gave the directive when the Registrar of Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists, Engr. Jonathan Ikeako and members of the Council paid him a working visit.

Arc. Sada gave the directive against the background that not much of what is being done in the sector is made known to the public and intending investors by departments and agencies.

To address that challenge, the Minister directed that the departments and agencies should be organizing stakeholders’ forum on regular basis.

He added that once that was done, it would fast track the development of the nation’s minerals and metal sector.

The Minister noted that the Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists is the heart of the mining industry in the country, adding that it must perform up to expectations.

Arc. Sada assured the agency of Federal Government’s support and cooperation in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities in the transformation agenda.

The Minister advised that the Board Members of the Council should resolve whatever issues that are militating against the smooth operation of the agency.

Speaking earlier, the Leader of the delegation and Registrar of the Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists, Engr. Jonathan Ikeako said that the essence of their visit was to congratulate the Honourable Minister on his re-appointment and to assure him of the support and cooperation of the agency for the Minister to succeed in his assignment.

The Registrar commended the Honourable Minister for the laudable steps he has taken to move the minerals and metals sector forward.
