Investors from the Republic of China have
indicated their determination to invest in Nigeria’s Mining
and Steel Sector for the mutual benefits of the two nations.
The
investors showed their interest when they paid a working
visit to the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.
The Chinese delegation was led by the
Director of Capital Operation, China Railway Construction
Corporation Limited, Mr. Shouhua Jin. The Director and Vice
– President of China Civil Engineering Construction
Corporation, Mr. Chen Xiaoxing and others were among the
delegation.
While welcoming the Chinese delegation to
Nigeria, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mines
and Steel Development, Alhaji Suleiman Kassim assured that
Nigeria would partner with the investors from China for the
development of the Mines and Steel Sector.
Alhaji Kassim said the partnership would
bring about positive results by moving Nigeria forward and
the investors would get value for their investment.
The Permanent Secretary said that Nigeria
would gain a lot from the technology and expertise of China
through the partnership in the Mines and Steel Sector.
In his remarks, the leader of the Chinese
delegation, Mr. Shouhua Jin, who is the Director of Capital
Operation, China Railway Construction Corporation Limited
said that the essence of their visit was to indicate their
intention to invest in Nigeria’s Mines and Steel Sector for
the mutual benefit of Nigeria and China.
Mr. Jin said the China Railway Construction
Corporation Limited established since 1947 is into
construction of transport infrastructure, real estate
management, mineral development and designing of various
steel work.
Mr. Jin said they are in the country to
gather more information on the Mines and Steel Sector so as
to facilitate their investment plans.
While in the country, the Chinese investors
will visit the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited and the
National Iron – ore Mining Company, Itakpe both in Kogi
State.
It could be recalled that the President of
Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua visited the Republic of
China last year on investment drive where he met with his
Chinese counterpart.
The visit and intention of the Chinese
investors to invest in Nigeria is a fall out of the
President’s visit to China last year.
