In a bid
to move the nation’s minerals and metal sector forward in
order to contribute appreciably to the transformation agenda
of the present administration, the Federal Government has
indicated her readiness to collaborate with relevant
professional bodies in the sector.
The Minister of Mines and
Steel Development, Arc. Musa Mohammed Sada gave this
indication during a meeting with officials of the Nigerian
Mining and Geosciences Society in his office.
This delegation was led by
the President of the Society, Engr. Akinola A. George.
Arc. Sada commended the crop
of various skilled and qualified professionals embedded in
the society, stressing that, the society has much to offer
the country in terms of wealth creation not for minerals and
metal sector alone but in other sectors of the economy
T he Minister also noted
that the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society was one of
the key elements in the transformation agenda of the present
administration as it was mandated to provide enabling
environment with qualified professionals for the minerals
and metal sector and other sectors of the nation’s economy.
He said the Ministry would
continue to collaborate with the society in areas of
professional skills and knowledge to move the minerals and
metal sector forward.
He said “I consider this
society as a special adviser of this ministry, we would
continue to invite you on areas we feel you can be of
importance and help to us’’.
The Minister therefore
assured the society of the ministry’s assistance in all its
activities for the benefit of the country.
Arc. Sada lauded the society
for the honour vested on him as the Vice- Patron of the
society, saying that it comprises of skilled professionals
whose seniority is highly respected.
Earlier in his remark, the
President, Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, Engr.
Akinola A. George said the mission of their visit was to
congratulate the Minister on his re-appointment as well as
welcome the new Permanent Secretary and also to brief them
about the society and its readiness to support the
government in her commitment to develop the minerals and
metal sector.
The President said efforts
are in top gear to constitute another Council of Mining
Engineers and Geoscientists based on the Act. He also sought
for the support of the Ministry in area of funding for the
society.
Highlights of the event was
the decoration of the Minister as the Vice- Patron of the
Society and presentation of the constitution and history of
the society |
