To
contribute meaningfully to the realization of the
transformation agenda of the present administration, the
Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc .Musa Mohammed
Sada has charged dieticians in the country to legalize their
profession.
The
Minister gave the charge when he received a delegation of
officials of Nigeria Dietetic Association who paid him a
working visit in his office.
The delegation which
included the wife of the Minister, Hajia Hadiza Sada was led
by the National Auditor of the association, Alhaji Abdulhadi
Abdulkadir who represented the National President of the
association Professor Elizabeth Chibuzor .
Arc Musa Mohammed Sada noted
the importance of dietetic profession to the realization of
the transformation agenda, urging dieticians to regulate and
use the laudable profession in educating the masses on the
need to eat in a healthy way which will go a long way at
improving their level of productivity.
He also advised the
government on the need to establish dietetic units in all
government establishments for the purpose of educating
workers on how to manage their eating habits.
The Minister expressed
appreciation for the visit, saying that, professionalism is
the hall mark of the present administration.
He said ‘The country is
heading toward regularization of the rule of law, it is
moving towards ensuring that it would not have any dealing
with anything that has no legal backing’.
He explained that with
varied professions having instruments of law backing them,
each profession would move forward thereby contributing
significantly to the transformation agenda of the
government.
The Minister assured the
association of the ministry’s readiness to offer necessary
assistance in its bid to regulate the dietetic profession.
In the word of the Minister
‘’I must encourage you that it is very important thing for
you to get the law to back you up’’.
Earlier in his remark, the
President of the association, Prof.Elizabeth Chibuzor who
was represented by the association’s National Auditor,
Alhaji Abdulhadi Abdulkadir said the purpose of their visit
was to introduce the association as well as seek for the
support of the minister on the proposed bill for the
association to have a regulatory body.
Professor Chibuzor explained
that one of the objectives of dietetic profession was to
create awareness on the need for people to live a healthy
life.
She decried lack of man-
power in the profession, saying that, there was a record of
about 137 million cases of diabetes in the country which are
basically related to diets.
She therefore sought for the
support of the Minister in ensuring that the proposed bill
of the association is well disposed to when presented at the
National Assembly. |
