Architect Mohammed Musa Sada, Minister for Mines and Steel
Development has expressed optimism that when professionals
are recruited and allowed to handle reforms commensurate
with their fields, all things will get better in the
country.
The Minister dropped this hint on Monday, during the
continuation of his working visit to the Council of Nigerian
Mining Engineers & Geo-Scientists (COMEG) in Abuja.
“we have industries that are under going serious
transformations as we are lucky to apart from oil, have
other abundant mineral resources which shall make this
country great, given the professional dynamism of our human
capital in various sectors” he said.
Arch.M.M.Sada further posited that to make and derive value
in every venture, professional registration bodies like
COMEG should endeavor to arrest situations where fake and
quack professionals are not only growing but carrying out
their dangerous activities on the Nigerian soil.
The Minister assured that for the government of Nigeria to
realize her objectives in setting up COMEG, effort will be
geared towards making it a place where the right caliber of
people are not only registered but employed and engaged as
far as mining is concerned alongside from time to time
giving every professional the opportunity to enhance and
sharpen his or her skill in the ministry’s institutes
located in Jos and Onitsha.
“ I believe if we can do things and work towards them in
that direction of industrialization of our nation after 50
years of march all problems and challenges will be tackle
head on” he added.
He then suggested that a budgetary request should be
forwarded to his office on all facilities needed to
strengthen the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers &
Geo-Scientists for government attention towards funding its
activities.
Earlier speaking, the Registrar of COMEG, Professor Jonathan
C. Ikeako informed the Minister that COMEG as a body
charged with the responsibility of accreditation of mining
engineers and geo-scientists also maintains the register of
all professional miners.
The Registrar implored the Minister to as a professional
assist the council in tackling some of the problems that had
bedeviled the smooth operations of his office in the last
six and half years.
He enumerated them as lack of funds to carry out the mandate
of the COMEG, office space, training-of- trainers and other
basic facilities that will complement the jobs of both
engineers and geo-engineers while in the fields.
Architect Mohammed Musa Sada was accompanied on the
familiarization visit by the Permanent Secretary, Engineer
Goni Sheik Musa, Directors and other heads of department in
the Ministry.
